Finding Calm In Chaos With MASS SKY RAID

Gold Coast alternative rock outfit Mass Sky Raid are riding high on the back of the well received release of their latest album, Calm in Chaos, on June 3.

Showing their musical growth since their debut Science Of Fiction, Mass Sky Raid have delivered a sonic wave of modern sounding hard rock/metal that showcases many sides of the band’s musical psyche.

Drummer Nic Ross joined HEAVY to discuss the album and upcoming tour.

“We all have heaps of different influences,” he measured when asked about the musical composition of Calm In Chaos. “For me, personally, Dead Letter is one of my favourite bands, Starset is one of my favourite bands, and yeah, I dunno. Just writing something that’s quite anthemic and a little bit different to the first album as well. Rather than going for more heavier, riffy stuff there’s a couple of curveballs on the album that are more acoustic and delicate tracks. We’re trying to show a softer side to the band as well. We’re not just a one trick pony with a mass of distorted guitars and all that jazz. Just a little bit of diversity to keep things fresh.”

In the full interview, Nic goes deeper into the diversity on the album, experimenting with music, their upcoming tour, the work that goes into each performance, future plans and more.
