Robin Williams classic Jumanji is getting a reboot…sequel…thing? And it’s looking pretty weird. In a star lineup, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black play the game avatars of a bunch of high-school students. The video-game ‘Jumanji’ sucks these students into a tropical world full of beauty and danger, where they must learn to survive with their newfound strengths and weaknesses.
The trailer has already been lambasted online for rebooting a series that doesn’t need to be rebooted; a criticism aimed at many modern reboots, soft reboots, hard reboots, remakes, and spiritual successors; such as the planned NeverEnding Story, Starship Troopers, American Psycho, and many more.
In any case, ‘reboot’ doesn’t mean ‘bad’ by a long shot, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will feature many excellent comic actors. Let’s all hope for a movie that would make Robin Williams proud.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle opens on December 20th.
