Exile Entertainment announces the production of the new Australian crime-thriller, Father’s Day.

A gambling addicted father has less than a day to pay back a debt to a violent loan shark. His day is turned upside down when he is forced by his ex-wife to look after their young son. As he grows increasingly desperate in his ways to pay back the debt, he is taken on a journey to confront his addiction and let go of his past.

Father’s Day is a modern day BICYCLE THIEVES set against an urban backdrop, the film explores contemporary themes of addiction, love and connection.

The cast features recent AACTA Nominee for Best Actor Damian Hill (Pawno), Arthur Angel (Red Dog), Kat Stewart (Offspring) and Tony Nikolakopoulos (Head On), and introduces young talent Ty Perham.  Entirely shot on location in Melbourne with local actors.

The film is written and directed by first time feature film director Jason Raftopoulos and is based off his graduate short film by the same name. The film is produced by Alexandros Ouzas via his production company Exile Productions in association with Small Village Films. Thom Neal is behind the lens as Director of Photography in his first feature film.

Alexandros: “Whilst developing a couple of larger scale projects together Jason and I decided that we wanted to get out there on the streets of Melbourne and shoot a film with the approach of our European influences: the likes of Goddard, Rossellini, Visconti. Father’s Day lends itself to this style of filmmaking as it follows the protagonist on his journey over one day. We are shooting at a rapid pace as we follow our main character on location with many non-actors. There’s a real freedom to this style of production. The cast and crew have been fantastic and we couldn’t have done this without them.

The film has Aus/NZ and UK distribution in place through Bounty Entertainment and Exile Distribution. Principal photography wraps on 6 March and the film is scheduled for final completion at the end of June 2017.
