Review by Alex Sievers
Enforcer, the Swedish speed-power metal band, released their first ever live album, Live By Fire last week and it comes with 15 live tracks plus 3 new studio tracks taken from the Speak The Tongue Of Heathen Gods EP.
The live album, recorded in Athens back in 2013, has had some decent post-editing and mixing done to it, and as for the songs themselves, they are a very 80’s and 90’s style of metal and rock, despite the band only being just over a decade old. However, one issue I had with the band was that after a while the songs all started to sound so similar, that I actually thought I had hit the ‘repeat’ button at some point.
Furthermore, this release has the exact same problem that I had with the Soilwork live CD – a good band with good songs, but given to me in a format that fails to capture the real speed, power and awesomeness of actually being right there. It makes me wish that I was seeing the gig in person, and not at my house, listening through big headphones, while trying to find something productive to do with my time as I listen, so that I may wade off the ever-pressing feeling of death that follows me.
***The CD also comes with a live DVD that was not part of this review.
