Over the years Dez Fafara has repeatedly shown why he is one of the most important men in the heavy music industry. From the ground breaking Coal Chamber through to the beast that is Devildriver, Fafara has always been one step ahead of the competition.
Now Devildriver prepares to return to Australia for the first time in five years while the band are working what some in the industry are describing as ‘an epic album’ where the band have written a tonne of music in readiness. Now Fafara chats to HEAVY Mag not only about the upcoming Devildriver tour but also explains what is fact and what is fiction about this new album.
“We were supposed to come back to Australia about a year or so ago,” explains Fafara. “That was for a festial but it fell apart so that is why there has been a five year wait. On the other hand we were coming so much we felt like Australian citizens so at one point I did say that for the brand itself we needed to take some time off this market and then come back to see how real it really is. If you keep coming back constantly, constantly then of course the crowd reaction is going to be there so I thought it was essential for us to wait out a little bit and then come back on the heels of the Outlaw album that we released and before we release a double staggered release next year and the following year… so this was the perfect time for us to come.”
“And we have a blistering set list,” he says with a smile as we continue to chat. “It is so blistering that I am not even going to have time to say hello for the first eight or nine songs. So just know that this thing is on fire and that we can’t wait to come… and we can’t wait to get there because it is definitely one of my favourite places to tour for sure.”
