For anyone that thought Dave Lombardo would cower in a corner and disappear after Slayer unceremoniously kicked him out of the band leading up to this years Soundwave festival, think again.
You don’t get to be one of the greatest drummers in metal without drive and ambition. So it’s no surprise that the drum god has plenty of projects to keep him fueled.
With two planned ventures in the works, the next few months look like he’s going to be a busy man.
First up comes the news that he will be reforming his side project Grip Inc. The groovier metal sounding band was a far cry from anything he ever did with Slayer and was originally formed back in 1993 when he departed ways with Slayer the first time round. Releasing four albums, the band came to a grinding stop when vocalist Gus Chambers died in 2008 from an accidental overdose.
Lombardo announced this week, that along with original guitarist Waldemar Sorychta and Amen singer Casey Chaos, the band will be resurrected.
Chaos and Lombardo have also been working together to form a supergroup with Exodus guitarist and good friend Gary Holt and QOTSA bassist Nick Oliveri, for the upcoming soundtrack for the House of Shock documentary.
House of Shock is the long standing horror themed haunted house started by Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo and buddies Ross Karpleman and Jay Gracinette in 1992. Celebrating 20 years now, the infamous event is held in New Orleans every October leading into Halloween. Lombardo and co, helmed by super producer Ross Robinson, have been working on the music that will accompany the documentary, scheduled to be released later in the year.
