Colouring Grey Areas with ARTISAN

Sydney prog metallers Artisan release their crushing new single “God of the Grey” today and sent guitarists Mitch and Maka along to speak to HEAVY about the single and upcoming EP Grey.

“We don’t like using the word djent”, laughed Mitch, “But it’s also pretty accurate. Apart from that, the sound of the new EP is a very dark, progressive metalcore kind of sound but we were trying to keep it contemporary as well and not so much prog. We have all of those influences but I think we really succeeded in staying true to our sound without really ripping anyone off”.

In the full interview (listen above), Mitch and Maka discuss the single and EP in more detail, it’s musical direction, the lyrical content, when Grey will be released, the benefits of having dual male/female vocals, the fine line between imitation and inspiration and more.
