CHON Prepare for Battle

Share This:

When Californian progressive rock and math rock outfit Chon formed at the turn of the decade they came to life in an era dominated by heavier music but soon carved their own niche in the market, quickly rising through the ranks of rock.

“It was more of the hardcore scene when we were starting out”, recalled guitarist Erick Hansel, “especially with deathcore and stuff like that. That style was really pumping off at the time but we were listening to a bunch of different stuff and we decided we wanted to make music that sounded like Chon so we started it up and figured out the name of the band and started playing anywhere we could”.

In the full interview Erick tells what to expect from their first headlining shows in Australia, talks about the differences in headlining and supporting and extra pressures that go with it, the early vision of Chon and how it has changed, experimenting with the bands sound over their three albums, why they were confident enough in last years album to make it self titled, the musical direction of the next album and the possibility of more vocals on it and more.
