While on the black carpet at the May 2nd Golden Gods Awards, the bands vocalist, Chino Moreno, discussed if the band will ever release the last recordings the band did right before their bassist Chi Cheng was tragically injured in the November 2008 car crash that he never recovered from and sadly passed away from last month.

Titled Eros, they had been working on the album since 2007 and Moreno was about half way through to finishing his vocal tracks the night of the tragedy.

As a band they decided to shelve the album, and went on to release Diamond Eyes in 2010 with Cheng’s fill in Sergio Vega. Due to Eros having a lot of dark themes, they chose a more optimistic style with Diamond Eyes to lift their spirits while they all dealt with the aftermath of the accident. Vega went onto record with the band on their current release Koi No Yokan, which ended up taking out Album of the Year at the awards.

Moreno told Artisan News, he thought the chances of the album coming out are more so now than ever. “I actually went back and listened to some of it recently and… you know, I don’t know when we will put it out or… but I feel it’s a little more appropriate now for us to think about that, than it has been in the last few years to think about.”

The album was produced by Deftones long time producer Terry Date, who worked with them since their 1995 debut album Adrenaline and went onto produce three more releases with them including their critically acclaimed album 1997’s Around The Fur.
