CARTHASY drop new album

Share This:

The singular motivation driving Perth’s Carthasy is making great music. First breaking through with their 2014 debut album The Gyre, the four-piece have returned in 2019 with their most exciting and ambitious work to date: sophomore album Revolve. Delivering loud, progressive music forged by a stunning level of musicianship, Carthasy are the heir apparent to a kingdom occupied by such luminaries as hometown heroes Karnivool.

With a unique approach and sound, Carthasy’s place among even the loftiest of their peers has been well-earned… a fact reiterated by each ground-breaking song on Revolve. The band has no quest for stardom, preferring instead to solidify themselves as one of Australia’s most hard working, no-bullshit touring acts. So too does the band discard Aus prog clichés for something more substantial; streamlined songwriting that lacks for nothing in either aggression or melody.

Current single Connect is a true statement-of-intent for the whole album. Commenting on the overlapping grey area between truth and falsehood, the song examines what goes through the minds of career politicians, once the cameras are turned off. Inspired by a chance encounter between frontman Garry Dick and former opposition leader Bill Shorten, Connect builds in impenetrable layers of thunderous drums and bass, blistering guitars and soaring vocal melodies.

Impeccably delivered by the team of producer Matthew Templeman, engineer Fraser Cringle, and mastering engineer Simon StruthersRevolve perfectly captures the skill and nuance of each band member… Garry Dick (vocals/guitar), Jack Hoffmann (bass), Tyson Rauh (guitar) and Lindsay Dick (drums). Combined, their sound is both fluid and crushing – a tsunami of valleys and peaks that come in relentless waves.

Sharing the stage with some of their own favourite bands and influences, Carthasy have been embraced by their peers for the sheer standard to which they strive. Filled with confidence born of diligence and practice, Carthasy have found their single-mindedness paying dividends, with recent triple j airplay and successful Australian tours among their growing list of achievements. Kindred to legendary Perth bands Chaos Divine and Voyager, Carthasy are a prodigious new breed that are determined to earn their place in Australia’s exciting new music landscape.
