When you put this EP on, you’re firstly going to notice the unrelenting riffs pummelling your skull in. About thirty seconds in it gets a little more intense and continues to do so for the next two minutes, until the song takes a breath before rocking you back into a demented lullaby for the remaining four minutes. There’s no vocals on the first track which is the title track, and it culminates in an eerie, strung-out guitar solo. The second song ‘Beckon The Call’ has some catchy hooks and strange vocals, but the ending is pretty cool. This song also features on the band’s debut album Eyes Cry Blood which they finished recording at the end of March. The final song ‘Cleaning’ also has some fairly painful and strangled vocals, but I think it works to articulate the lyrical content which focuses on the neglect of loved ones through drug use. The production, done by Joe Haley (Psycroptic), is similarly dark and grimy and the blend of the three guitars gives Trance a thick, noisy and distorted sound. Overall, there are some good elements on this release, and I’m interested to see where they’ll take it with the album.
