It’s been just over two years since Phoenix five-piece Blessthefall unleashed Hollow Bodies onto the world, and now they are back with their latest instalment in the form of To Those Left Behind, due for release on 18th of September.

One of the first noticeable differences with To Those Left Behind is that the album as a whole is not as heavy and rough as Hollow Bodies, but this isn’t to say that there are no heavy-hitting gems. The album starts off strong and forceful with opening tracks Decayer and Walk on Water complete with anthemic vocals and epic double kicks on the drums, but very quickly delves into clean territory with Dead Air and later on in Condition//Comatose, both possessing incredibly pristine production surrounding the dominating clean vocals of Beau Bokan.

Just when you get comfortable with the flow of the heavy tracks on the album, suddenly a clean track is thrown into the mix. It can make for a somewhat jarring experience upon first listen, but this is not necessarily a bad thing as it demonstrates the band’s variety of sound. Worth checking out!
