BLACK STAR RIDERS Explore Another State Of Grace

Share This:

For Stone Sour guitarist Christian Martucci it was a phone call that changed his life. Already a big fan of Thin Lizzy and the work of the legendary Scott Gorham and Ricky Warwick Martucci couldn’t believe it when he got a call asking if he would like to join their super-group Black Star Riders.

“It was very surreal,” says Martucci when I ask him what that moment was like when he first got that phone call. “It was very surreal because I was already in a band and already performing, but like all guitar players my age that moment when you first discover Thin Lizzy is a big game changer. They were always doing things with guitars that either hadn’t been done yet or were very new things at the time they were doing it. There was all that stuff and every today it still sounds so fresh. I was just so happy because any time you get a chance to not only play with but to write and record with somebody that it that much of a legend you take it. There is a lot to be learned from Scott Gorham.”

The talk of writing and recording with Scott Gorham leads to me ask how Martucci feels now that Black Star Rider’s brand new album, Another State Of Grace, is about to be released. “It’s kind of like waiting for Christmas to happen but you already know what you are getting,” says Martucci laughing loudly. “You have all these songs that you are super proud and you are just like ‘come on, come on’ because you just want to start playing them for people. You want them to hear it but you have to wait, man. It is hard to keep your mouth shut though.”
