After a successful maiden year, Beyond the Darkness returns in 2024. Event organiser Jackie Green had this to say.
“(Beyond The Darkness was started) After my husband Dave Dash Green lost his battle on 22 February 2022. He had a short 13-month battle with Stage 4 Oesophageal Cancer, he was only 47. I knew I had to get my life together and try and make some change.
Shortly after he passed away, the mighty Brisbane band Valhalore honoured his memory as a long term fan and donated proceeds of one of their shows to the GI Cancer Institute. This honoured our family. We were not aware at the time of our cancer journey that people could take part in trials. It was not an option and we struggled with the conventional treatments of surgery, radium and chemotherapy.
After a discussion with friends about how we should honour his 12-month anniversary, our friend Brian suggested we put on a show. From that Beyond the Darkness was born. There were so many show names that were chucked around between Dexx and I, some of them just ridiculous. He came up with the idea from something I said to him. I would always say “it was good to have someone to face the darkness with and pull me into the light”. Beyond the Darkness became what it truly was.
Out of the darkness and into the light. Stage lights!!
The metal fraternity has been by my side since the beginning, and I also wanted to give back to them by putting on a killer show. We raised nearly $5,000.00 for the GI Cancer Institute last year. This year is bigger and better with huge lineup of:
Ahiru
In Effigy
Total Buzzkill
Lost Beneath
KRAVE
WildAsh
Awake in Time
Void Matter
Sentiment
ENGRAVED
