Seismic Shifter is the second album from the Belfast foursome Baleful Creed. As the follow up to their 2013 debut self titled album, this release is another hard-hitting album from this band. Since forming in 2009, the band have released not only now two full albums but also three EPs, the last two of which were remastered into their debut album. The band has also always been about catering to their fans, which is why they decided to create physical CDs instead of just digital downloads. Described as heavy rock/stoner rock, this is everything we’ve come to expect from this band.
The first track, “Devil’s Side”, starts off with a great catchy riff that hooks you straight away. Once the vocals kick in that’s when the track really kicks in. With Fin Finley‘s gravelly voice that grabs your attention placed against the heavy beats of this track, it gives you an idea of what to expect from this band. The solo screams hard rock and fits with the style of this band perfectly.
Baleful Creed shows some real versatility through this album with tracks such as “Levy”, which is less gritty and more soulful on sound. That’s not to say that their hard rock feel is not on the track; just listening to the solo lets you know that this band know exactly who they are – harmonica and all. “Forgiven” is another track that shows a band who know that a melodic track or two really help to complete an album.
The album is full of heavy-hitting riffs and epic guitar solos. Working with dual guitarists give this band a sound that can be compared to that of Black Sabbath. The sound that these guys create is catchy and soulful at the same time and the gritty vocals from Finley give them that edge. This album will leave you banging your head and tapping your feet in a way that can only be done with great quality rock ‘n’ roll! With tracks such as “Lose Religion” and “Grind”, it’s easy to see why Baleful Creed has been making a name for themselves.
