If there’s one thing better than going to a metal festival, it’s chatting with the bands backstage before, during, or after their set. Backstage is where the magic happens, and it’s also where bands can be at their most vulnerable – and exciting…
HEAVY has just finished doing the rounds at Dead Of Winter Festival at the Mansfield Tavern, and one of the bands we caught up with was Dad Fight.
DAD FIGHT is a raucous pub punk outfit formed in Brisbane during the early 2020 lockdowns. Emerging from casual garage jam sessions, the five-piece group quickly built a reputation across the Queensland music scene for their chaotic, high-energy live performances. Their sound channels classic Australian larrikinism, mixing hardcore-edged punk rock with highly irreverent humour. Fronted by a vocalist known as Buddy, the lineup features Jacky Tobaccy, Sambo, Lemon, and Riley.
The band’s growing discography on platforms like DAD FIGHT Bandcamp includes tracks like Milton Mango and I Can’t See Straight. These songs deliver fast, heavy anthems detailing reckless local nightlife. Known for their heavy touring schedule, they regularly deliver beer-fueled shows across Australia’s east coast.
Ali Williams sat down to chat with the band.
