Backing Yourself with GOATZILLA

Share This:

Goatzilla are very much a band who does things on their terms without thought to popularity or exposure. They know their target audience and cater successfully to it, even down to naming their debut album Muthafukasaurus.
“No, no”, affirmed bass player/vocalist Ben Zilla when asked if they gave thought to such a confronting title hindering their chances of acceptance. “I did a lot of research on how you’re meant to get your music out there in 2019 and it all seems still based on stuff that might have been valid ten years ago, but the bottom line is I don’t think anybody really understands – not even the music industry – understands how to get music out there these days. They’re just guessing and throwing money at big social media campaigns hoping that something sticks. It’s all a lot of guesswork and that’s why I think the mainstream music industry sticks with their very safe formula. I though ‘bugger it, ignore the rules, because the rules ain’t bloody working and they’re not going to work for us’ (laughs). We just wanna be us and Muthafukasaurus is the kind of animal that we thought Goatzilla is (laughs). We just wanted to have fun with it, and that’s it, at the end of the day this is about enjoying what we do artistically and that enjoyment comes across and if other people pick up on it and enjoy it too then that’s good. That’s ultimately what you’re after”.
In the full interview Ben discusses this weekends performance at OUTMOSHYAMA Festival in Brisbane, what bands he is looking forward to seeing, how to survive a full day music festival, their debut album Muthafukasaurus and it’s musical direction, single ‘Drop Bear’, the goals they had with the album, plans for the remainder of the year and more.
