One of the greatest up and coming bands to come from our shores, blending elements of stoner, grind, sludge and groove metal into one lethal cocktail which must include a pineapple. Just watch the brilliant video for album opener, No Time For Numb Nuts below, and you will know what I mean. It features a cameo from Matt Young of Australian grind legends King Parrot.
Black Rheno are as solid as a f**ing cement truck; this EP will pave the way for sludge-greatness.
After the catchy sludge-fest of an opener Lock the Gate sparks some stoner jams with Nano providing dirty riffs and guitar wizardry to crack a smile on Merlin. Bet he didn’t have those riffs in his magical book of spells. Next, we have First World Bitches a track that goes from gritty hardcore with front man Milla releasing more rage than a teen going through puberty for the first time; which turns into a catchy chorus and Dougy punks it up behind the breakneck speed.
If you thought Black Rheno were taking the pace down a notch after the calm intro of Destruction Line you were dead wrong, this was just a build up. Milla lets loose some growls releasing any demons as Nano provides some thick riffs to stomp those demons and Dougy attacks the drums like Godzilla on a rampage through the city. The next track is just that, the aptly titled Rampage with a bluesy feel to it and that stoner groove with resemblance of Clutch. Closing up with Blah Blah Blah, Black Rheno really leave no stone unturned with this all killer no filler EP. One world class band that really make you feel proud to be an Aussie.
