EVP Recordings are re-releasing another Aussie classic along with Crypt’s Disgusting Zombie Metal. This time it’s Aussie thrash legends Allegiance. Let’s hope it’s a good enough reason for them to tour again. The classic album D.e.s.t.i.t.u.t.i.o.n from 1994 has never sounded better. As anyone who grew up listening to the band or has recently discovered them know that there’s only one way to listen to Allegiance and that is to turn it the f*@K up!!! Yep, listen to it loud!!
The stomping riff of opener Chaos Dies, along with its infectious guitar solos and licks, would make Kerry King turn his head. At the same time, the Hetfield inspired chorus is ultra-catchy. Things turn up a notch higher with next track, One Step Beyond. The musicianship is flawless, and this band is never short of a riff or a worthy guitar solo. As well as the pummelling, thrashing drums, an awesome bass groove stands out during the latter stages of this track.
This album is all killer no filler, and the the many standout tracks simply get better and better the more you listen to them. Other crucial tunes are title track, Destitution and Path of Lies, with its very welcome death growls. The guitar riff will remind you of early Slayer which is a good thing. The guitar wizardry of Downward Spiral will only have you wanting more. Add some more death growls and we have a winner. These guys were ahead of their time and not many bands are creating thrash metal with this much passion these days. On the final thrash fest Twisted Minds, anthemic gang vocals from the band don’t hold back, before the track and the album winds down with a dark, subtle keyboard piece. Picture the curtains closing and pray to your one of many gods/demigods, that we get a return of the mighty Allegiance!!! \m/
