Hailing from Rockhampton, North Queensland a town that isn’t really known for producing heavy metal acts, Affinity Minus Perfection fly the heavy flag high and continue to keep things intense in their red landscaped mountain town. Their latest offering Passion Through Unity which was produced by Troy Brady, a former member of The Amity Affliction and has also produced records for In Hearts Wake and Antagonist A.D. packs plenty of punch, it’s polished and well thought out structure wise. For the music lover it’s easy to appreciate the time that has gone into the construction of Passion Through Unity E.P.

Opening track “Speechless” swoops in with a huge drawn out scream by Hayden F (Vocals) with a punchy heavy riff and rhythm section, the chorus section creeps up and appears suddenly with a smooth key change. From the get go the screaming vocals (Hayden F) and clean singing sections by Matt H (Guitar / Vocals) meld well together giving the listener a Nordic/ Metalcore feel, this being a bit of signature sound for the band.

“Intention Subversion” features a somewhat broken up verse section with strings and drums locking in with repeating down stroke/ beat giving the track a more feel good mood. With swirling background guitar leads courtesy of Simon A (Guitar) and Matt H “Intention Subversion” reaches its summit with a clean vocal that will be sure to not leave your skull for years to come, the vocals compliment the mood of this track solidly.

A track with a locked in rhythm section is always going to win metal fans over time and time again  “Voice In Volume” executes this with gusto, Kyle C (Bass) and Hayden W (Drums) are dialed in with an array of double patterns from start to finish. “Faithfully Detached” sees the band step into a bit more of a groove with the tempo pulled back a touch. The chugs and varied vocal styles within “Faithfully Detached” give off a real maturity in the writing abilities of the five piece. Pay close attention to this track, there’s a lot to it!

Final track “From Beginning, To Now” flows in with an instrumental groove whilst keeping that signature vocal layering and sharing. The palm muted breakdowns will have the die hards selecting their favorite throw down moves within the bridge sections of this track. You have been warned.

A mature release from the Rockhampton heavy hitters, plenty of grit and heart throughout this E.P. Crank it loud and assume the position of windmill mode, the heaviness is here!
