German power metal outfit Hammer King have created for themselves a musical fantasy world where everyone is welcome once they pledge allegiance to Hammer King.
It is a wonderful world full of wine, women and song and one which permeates through every song released by the band and every live performance delivered.
That world is expanded upon with Hammer King’s upcoming album Kingdemonium which will be unleashed on August 19.
Sporting more tales of triumph over adversity, Kingdemonium arrives only 14 months after the band’s previous self-titled album, with vocalist Titan Fox admitting the quick turnaround was more beneficial than negative.
“Given the last two years that were very, very tricky for everybody we couldn’t play any shows for last years Hammer King album,” he explained, “so we decided to carry on and create new music because as a musician you want to do music, in whatever form. So, when Napalm gave us the go-ahead – I think it was late October – they said we could release an album for the Summer Festival season in 2022, so we knew we would have to deliver a finished product by early March. It was a short period of time, relatively. The interesting thing, as it turned out, the short time led to us being very instinctive. So many people have pointed out the album has a very good spirit. I compare it with what the bands did in the 80s. When you look at Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Saxon had two albums in one year, so there wasn’t much time. They just followed and delivered whatever they had on one side, and I think we did the same thing here. In a way it was stressful, it was interesting, I hardly remember recording the album because it was so stuffed. I only knew I had to finish one and a half or even two songs vocally every day, which was quite demanding. But in the end, if you go with the flow, it really made us deliver a very catchy and very heavy album. A little bit darker compared to our old albums.”
In the full interview, Fox talks about the singles released and how they relate to the overall sound of the album, the concept behind Hammer King’s music, inside the fantasy world created by the band, the epicness of their music and how difficult it is to capture, the early days of the band, upcoming shows and more.
