Brooklyn alt-rock band Decades Late have spent three years working through a specific kind of nostalgia — not retro pastiche, but ’90s guitar music rebuilt with modern muscle. Their new EP, Dark Is the Light, Pt. 1 (out now), is the clearest statement of that project yet: four songs that move from jangle-pop to full-throttle shoegaze without ever losing the hook.
Every band has a song fans point to as the mission statement. For Decades Late, that was Straight Through the Heart, and Quantum Run is its natural successor, already the band’s most-streamed track.
The track Vedic Dream opens in a spacey psychedelic haze woven with Indian prayer chants, then thunders into heavy 90s alt-rock — dual blistering riffs, pounding drums, Smashing Pumpkins muscle. The verses drop to a Pixies-style hush: rich 12-string beneath vocals telling the ancient Vedic story of cosmic harmonies revealed in meditation.
