Premiere: The Dreadful Tides “N.I.B”

Emerging Australian hard rock outfit The Dreadful Tides‘ newest single N.I.B is a throwback to yesteryear, delivering a fresh version with an understanding of what makes a classic track last the test of time.

At 3 minutes and 53 seconds – almost half the length of the original – N.I.B starts off slow and fills the air with humming vocals provided by vocalist Holden Stirling, begging the question, where have I heard this before?

As the lyrics flow in, long-time fans will be the first to buckle up for the ride. Then BANG, that classic guitar riff driven by guitarist Justin ‘Strudy’ Strudwick kicks in, supported by a thunderous rhythm section with Leland ‘Lee-boy’ Hallett on drums and Darius ‘D-man’ Kooth on bass.

The track is as hard-hitting as the original, bought 52 years into the future. N.I.B is a modern hard rock twist delivered with professionalism that shows the calibre of musicianship usually displayed by seasoned groups.

As this version takes a heavy dive into a lead break, guitarist Strudy finds his moment to shine with an intelligent fusion keeping the essence of the original but delivering a climax with such power that this version of N.I.B takes off into a place of its own before settling to a smooth vocal outro.
