This band went on a breather back in ’11 after five successful albums. Now they’re back, and it’s clear that the break did them much good. Immortalized is an excellent Disturbed album, sits very nicely in their canon of work and serves as a very strong comeback.

I’ve read the criticisms aimed at Disturbed, especially by ‘true’ metalheads. Yes, it’s formulaic and easily digestible heavy music. Yes, they hit upon a winning direction and they’ve stuck to that like glue. Bands like Disturbed don’t grow and expand. Bands like Disturbed just are.

Immortalized is shitloads of fun, in the grand Disturbed tradition. The songs are big, bold, beautiful and punchy as anything. The grooves are titanic, and the iconic Dave Draiman’s voice segues beautifully from his trademark staccato delivery to soaring melody with great aplomb.

This band is also known for doing quirky, unexpected covers on their albums, and this one just about takes the cake. They put their own spin on Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sounds of Silence. It’s different, but give it a chance, it’ll grow on you.

These guys are the masters of stadium metal, and they have proved it again on Immortalized.
