Australia does the alternative/progressive heavy rock thing better than any other country on the planet these days. However, other countries occasionally throw a hat into the proggy alt-rock ring.
Hailing from Knox, Tennessee, Ten Years’ sound is powerful, dark and heavy but melodic, they write strong tunes and play their instruments with the skill of seasoned professionals. From Birth to Burial is a strong album that takes you on a dynamic musical journey with much emotional and musical rise and fall, from the moody melancholy of Survivors? and Moisture Residue to the howling, thundering power of Triggers and Tripwires and Crimson Kiss, both of which put one in mind of a band like Deftones.
These guys are supporting Brisbane’s Dead Letter Circus on tour in Australia soon, and I still believe our nation does this style better than anyone, but viewed in isolation, this album is very appealing and makes a very strong statement in progressive/alternative heavy rock.
