Wormed: Exodromos

Share This:

10 years is a long time to wait for a band to bring out their second album but with Spain’s Wormed finally releasing Exodromos, the time spent has been well worth it.

What first hits you is the maturity of the songs and how far the members have advanced since the release of the now classic Planisphaerium. Song structure is evidently clearer on this release with the band driving the music in a much more spearheaded direction, melded with an intricate flow but never losing its ferocity. The brutal and complex foundations are still an essential part of the building blocks of their sound. Phlegeton’s vocals are as guttural as ever but slightly more hypnotic then on previous releases which paves the way for the rest of the band to tightly wrap their own take on the cosmos they have created.

Musically the band is much more diverse as they offer the listener an abundance of extreme music whilst dropping them into exciting new realms which sadly is not offered by a lot of others recently within the family of death metal. Technically this album is far beyond what you’d anticipate and crushes any doubt that they aren’t capable of rewriting the rule book once more. The guitars have a perfect blend of clarity and insane force mixed with a production worthy of their musicianship. Migueloud and Oliver complement one another as they sweep, shred and riff, creating the portal into the Wormed universe. Conventional drumming has been thrown out the window and the bar raised once again as drummer Riky avoids what could’ve become nauseating blast beats but rather fuses what becomes the backbone of the album. Boundaries are effortlessly shattered within the landscapes of this genre and laid out neatly within its 10 tracks.

Lyrically they continue their space journey, a main focal point of their song writing themes, which is refreshing within a scene constantly obsessed with outdoing one another with gore soaked lyrics.

Clocking in just over half an hour, this album will be played on repeat for a while to come.
