Aussie Brutalitarians Werewolves seem to be the most creative and productive entity in this country, with all members being in a plethora of other musical endeavors besides this extreme machine!
Releasing two blistering albums in a short space of time in 2021/22 they have stayed true to their creative promise to one another and teased an upcoming full length in a few months time by releasing the short sharp EP titled simply “DEATHMETAL”.
The unwritten Werewolves mission statement is quite simply to be as cold, unforgiving and face pummeling as humanly possible, that said; two new tracks – one and two being Harvest of Skulls and the Youtube lyric video released I Hate Therefore I Am and the covers being Behind The Light Thou Shall Rise, originally by Deicide and Christraping Black Metal courtesy of Marduk.
The two openers are as comforting as a panzer gently cascading across your soft flesh as it slowly tenderizes your supple unsuspecting body; side note the lyric “We Have Achieved Nothing and to Nothing We Return, But Not Today!” on “I Hate Therefore I Am” screamed unmercifully at us is fucking gut-wrenching.
Now to the covers, on Behind The Light Thou Shall Rise vocalist Sam channels his finest Glen Benton, gifting the listener a superior Werewolves rendition of the Deicide track in this reviewer’s mere unsolicited opinion. And what better way to bring in a Werewolves new year slash new release than the aptly titled and performed Christraping Black Metal to end this short confrontational release?
Well…there isn’t one! This review does much yet little to prepare the death/black elitist amongst us for what the Werewolves have in store with their upcoming full length, but let it be said we have been forewarned yet me thinks ill-prepared for the monstrous Armageddon to be unleashed upon us in the not too distant future.
