Wacken Open Air has been and gone, this year marking the 35th birthday of one of the worlds biggest and best metal festivals. HEAVY went along this year for the first time to check out the four day metal marathon, with the goal of chatting with a few of the bands performing and first cab off the rank was The Troops Of Doom.
For those unfamiliar with the band, THE TROOPS OF DOOM are a Brazilian Death Metal group founded in 2020 by guitarist Jairo “Tormentor” Guedz – former member of SEPULTURA’s original lineup playing author and co-author to classic records such as Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions – alongside bassist/vocalist Alex Kafer, drummer Alexandre Oliveira and guitarist Marcelo Vasco, acclaimed graphic artist for the likes of Slayer, Kreator, Machine Head, Soulfly and Hatebreed among others. The band emerged to revive the classic death/ thrash metal of the 1980s, inspired by SEPULTURA‘s early era with Jairo and other influential bands such as Slayer, Celtic Frost, Kreator and Possessed.
