Independent heavy alternative band Vespera are active again after nearly five years away. Originally formed in Seattle, Vespera released their first single in May 2017 before relocating to Los Angeles the following year. The band played its first-ever show at The Roxy Theatre in Hollywood in October 2019.
Built independently from the ground up, Vespera began earning attention from Billboard, Revolver, Rock Sound, Alternative Press and Spotify’s rock and metal side. Touring was supposed to be the next step. A U.S. run with Monuments and Skyharbor was scheduled for 2020, but was cancelled just two weeks before it was set to begin as COVID brought touring to a halt. Shortly afterward, the band’s touring van was struck in a hit-and-run and ultimately declared totaled.
With touring suddenly gone, Vespera immediately pivoted into writing. The band eventually returned to the road with NateWantsToBattle in 2021, only for that run to also be cut short after a significant portion of the touring party contracted COVID. After that, Vespera quietly disappeared.
Years later, returning to some of the Vespera sessions left behind during that period became the unexpected beginning of the band finding its way back. Returning also meant revisiting where the band had actually left off. What appears publicly as three separate Vespera EPs was originally written as one 14-song album. Release limitations at the time forced the record to be divided, meaning the songs eventually became public while almost nobody experienced the complete body of work in its intended sequence.
The band has since reconstructed that original sequence. Vespera have new music and a return to touring planned for 2027. For now, the band is simply picking up the thread and opening the door again. Check out some examples of their work below.
