Triumph Through Tragedy With LYDIA’S CASTLE

Share This:

Formed as a project between Tonya LeeAnne and her husband Cody Denton in 2020 to share their mutual love for metal and hard rock, Lydia’s Castle has quickly transgressed the needs of two individuals and turned into a musical behemoth of its own that is sweeping up more fans with every release.

After the success of the band’s first two singles Falling Into Place and Phoenix, Lydia’s Castle today release their third offering Search For You, a song that has deep meaning for the band and one which easily sweeps others up in its majestic nature.

Tonya (vocals) and Cody (guitar) sat down with HEAVY to discuss the song.

“That song is one of the first songs that Tonya and I wrote together,” Cody began, “and is one we have had demoed out for a while. It came to fruition once we completed our band line up and once we recorded it our producer helped sprinkle some magic on it as well – which is what producers are good for (laughs). That ended up being one of our favourite songs. It’s just kind of one of those songs that happened naturally.”

At its centre, Search For You is a story of loss and overcoming heartbreak, but when you dig deeper into the core, the song takes on much more significance.

“Lydia’s Castle, the band, is really special to Cody and I,” Tonya said, inhaling deeply. “About a week before my due date we ended up losing our daughter, whose name was Lydia. At that time, we really struggled to figure out what we wanted to do next in our lives. While we were doing this self-evaluation and trying to rebuild ourselves we ended up building Lydia’s Castle, and we found that we wanted to do music one more time and to show people that there is a light at the end of a tragedy. That’s where the name comes from and kind of like our mission, or our statement, is just to spread some good in the world. Search For You speaks towards searching for somebody in another life. This is our Lydia song.”

In the full interview, Tonya and Cody go deeper into Search For You, discuss the first two singles and how they all differ from each other, the start of Lydia’s Castle and how it turned into a full band, getting Staind drummer Jon Wysocki on board and what he brought to the band, the difficulties of putting a band together during lockdown and more.
