More details have been released by prosecutors against As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis at his arraignment today.
San Diego prosecutor Claudia Grasso revealed in court that Lambesis had approached numerous people at the gym he attended to put the hit on his wife. Once these details were given to police, a sting was put in place to have an undercover detective to catch him out. The detective posed as a hitman named ‘Red’ and met with Lambesis.
Lambesis “approached Red, and said that he wanted his wife gone. When asked, he said I don’t want to see her ever again. When specifically asked, do you want her dead, he said, yes that’s exactly what I want.” Grasso claims the prosecution has an audio recording of this exchange.
He then allegedly handed over an envelope with $1000 (US) cash, Meggan Lambesis address details, security codes to enter the property and time frames for when the couple’s three adopted children would not be in her custody.
After pleading not guilty, he is now being held on $3 million dollars bail and has had to surrender his passport, wear a GPS tracking device and can only leave San Diego to meet with his lawyers.
In court papers obtained by The Associated Press, it has been revealed that Meggan Lambesis had expressed concern in his behaviour leading up to their split in September last year. He became obsessed with his appearance, was spending more time body building and spending exorbitant amounts on more tattoos. She alleged there were multiple affairs with other women and was concerned about his ability to care for their children. The court documents show Meggan did not fear for her safety. Grasso announced in court that Lambesis had sent his wife an email a month before they split telling her he didn’t love her anymore or believed in God any longer.
