Following on from a monumental year in 2021, Bad Moon Born are out to win your love with their fiery new cover single It’s Gonna Be Me (*NSYNC). In the spirit of all things romantic, we sat down with the band’s bass player and Master of Hearts, Shane Robinson, to discuss his top 5 dating tips. Check them out below:
1. Sight
You’re gonna want to make that first visual moment a win. What works for me every time is a bit of flare. You gotta channel those old godfathers of the soul for this. A good ol’ full body spin, preferably a full 360 degrees (make sure you practice a few times in the mirror), followed by double finger guns aimed at the date with a simple ‘sup girl/boy/whatever-you like.’ You can also take it down the cowboy path with the simple but effective ‘howdy’ – both work. Also, if you’ve got teeth, make sure you give ‘em a good brush.
2. Keep It Chill
What I have found is that nerves sometimes get the best of us. Fortunately for me, I never get nervous (and not everyone plays bass like me, which automatically makes me more appealing than most). My advice is to keep it chill – listen, ask questions, and try to allow the flow of the date to just flow… And remember, you’re a catch! There’s no need to rush over and impress right away.
3. Plan Ahead
It’s probably a good idea to have a few different scenarios in your brain for how the night is going to pan out. Firstly, always keep a positive mind and heart – you don’t want to fall into buzz kill territory or come across as uninterested. Make sure you have fun regardless of the outcome, and make sure your ‘old fella/lady’ is looking shmicko, just in case.
4. Closing the Deal
If the date ends up back at your place, do what I do and make sure your whole living quarters are covered in the freshest rose petals you can get. It’s easy for me because roses are a huge part of my life – if they’re not a huge part of yours, that’s ok. You might just need to get help from a friend or family member to assist in setting it up. You’re also going to want to get a ‘mood’ playlist happening upon arrival – I’d strongly recommend any songs by Barry White or Keni Burke to help set the tone and get those juices flowing. Also, don’t forget to keep it safe – always wear a love glove.
5. Hope
Now if the date doesn’t work out then don’t worry, there’s plenty more where that came from and there is someone out there for you. Just keep on giving that love back to yourself and the good lord in the meantime, and they will soon show up. I’ve been waiting for mine for at least 10 years. Chances are I’ll be your next partner’s ex-partner… Tell ‘em I said hey.
Over the course of Feb ’21 to Jan ’22, Bad Moon Born released 5 consecutive singles, known collectively as The Heart From the Hollow Series. The singles collection landed the group on multiple Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, with a majority of the tracks receiving airtime on both Triple M and Triple J. The band concluded 2021 by signing to Destroy All Lines, and cracked open 2022 with a live acoustic performance for Rolling Stones’ ‘In My Room’ series. The 5-piece are currently slated to release their new cover single It’s Gonna Be Me (*NSYNC) which will be supported by their It’s Gonna Be An East Coast Tour at the start of June. Following on from this, the band will be heading into the studio to begin recording their long-awaited debut album.
