Australian band LORD have been pushing the envelope when it comes to metal genres over the past few years, but their brand new album Fallen Idols takes that one step further and it takes its listener on a journey through the various genres of metals that the band members have grown up listening to. The band’s main man Lord Tim chatted to HEAVY Mag about the idea behind the album and how they went about recording it.
“We always start to think about albums and what kind of direction they will go in and what kind of concept we want to do and every single time so far it has been thrown out the window,” he says laughing. “We normally start to write these things going in the direction we wanted to and then it just seems to evolve into what it did but this time we felt like we wanted to channel a lot of the nostalgia of the music that we listened to when we were growing up, when it would be us standing around a stereo system with beers in hand listening to all kind of rock and metal. That was the soundtrack of our lives and we wanted to try and capture that vibe.”
“We have always been a band that has had a bit of an agnostic approach to style,” he goes on to explain. “We would do everything from hard rock to AOR, to prog to extreme metal to power metal so that really harkened back to what we were doing when we were kids. We would have a Dokken song or we would have a Priest song or a Bathory song or a Destruction song and to us it was all just metal, so we were trying to capture that idea – this big mix-tape of styles that we all loved and that we would all get into. We wanted to incorporate that idea into the kind of album that we would make ourselves.”
