Naarm/Melbourne-based punk rock band The Maggie Pills have unveiled their rebellious single GOLD – produced/co-mixed by the band’s own Mario Perez and mastered by Joe Carra (Amyl and The Sniffers, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett).
GOLD unfurls with an enigmatic allure, beckoning into a gritty underground realm, awash with haunting vocal layers and suspending harmonies. Rebellious drums and razor-sharp riffs emerge, infusing the atmosphere with urgency and unyielding defiance that embrace the wild essence of self-expression.
The Maggie Pills talk about the inspiration behind GOLD: “‘GOLD’ is a recognition of the value that each of us can bring about, and how this talent is often overshadowed by the more conventional creators. We are talented, brilliant, revolutionary change makers. We are also different, weird, non-conforming, and queer; we have a different accent or a way of being that is not part of the status quo, and this brings a challenge that we will always face. ‘GOLD’ invites us to dance frantically and to let our beautiful chaos come out without impositions or conditions. Being different and true to ourselves can be painful and isolating, but we believe that it is the most valuable thing we can give out to the world.”
