Brisbane’s growing heavy music scene will take a significant step forward on May 1, as The Lou Lou Room hosts its first dedicated hardcore showcase, less than three years after opening its doors. Bringing together a diverse cross-section of hardcore, metalcore, deathcore, and slam, the event marks a milestone not only for the venue, but also for the broader South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales heavy community.
Headlined by Gold Coast hardcore heavyweights Deathproof, the lineup also features emerging metalcore act Konfess, Byron Bay nu-metalcore outfit NU3XIT, new to the scene deathcore bands A Call Beyond, and Inhuman Consumption. The showcase aims to highlight the depth and diversity of heavy music talent—both established and emerging—across the region.
“This show is about pushing underground music into new spaces and giving the scene room to grow,” says Nick Dempsey of A Call Beyond and promoter of the event. “The Lou Lou Room is a great venue that hasn’t yet hosted a true heavy lineup, so we’re looking to set the tone in the bayside community and show what’s possible.”
Since opening, The Lou Lou Room has built a reputation as an intimate live venue. This event signals a shift toward embracing heavier genres within Brisbane’s evolving live music landscape. With strong local support and a lineup spanning multiple heavy subgenres, the May 1 showcase is expected to attract a wide audience and further strengthen support for the local scene.
