Fresh from wowing the audience at UsFest in Sydney Melbourne’s very own The Last Martyr show why they deserve the ‘most promising’ tag with their Creatrix EP which takes all the best bits of Evanscense and infuses an almost experimental Nu-Metal sound with Arch Enemy like vocals from the very talented Monica Strut.
Opening track ‘Into The Black’ delivers the unique mix of sweet vocals of Strut followed by sheer brutality that delivers an amazing sound that leaves your breathless. The guitars of Ben Rogers and Travis Presley are in your face while the ‘floating or drowning’ part of the track shows a willing to experiment which will see The Last Martyr go a long way.
The genre changing sound of The Last Martyr becomes clearer on ‘Stay Awake’ a track that is again lifted by stunning vocals, lyrics that make you think while it is the slowed down part of the track that makes it stand out from the hundreds of tracks that hit my inbox each day. The bands willingness to experiment also comes to the fore with the real schizophrenic feel of ‘Fear’ which is clearly the best track on the album.
‘Echoes’ shows the more melodic side to the band while the smooth title track that closes the EP just further enhances my thoughts that this is a band that is going to make it big. Australia lap up The Last Martyr while you can because this Creatix EP reveals a band that will be soon taking world stages by storm.
