The Head Of The Snake With ALERA

“We’re here to make good music. Everyone in the band is music focussed”

Melbourne post-hardcore outfit Alera are riding high on the back of their recent debut EP Beware The Snake.

More than five years in the planning, Beware The Snake is more than your traditional debut EP. Over many months that led in to years of planning, the band carefully orchestrated a release schedule that involved a deep concept and unique – yet effective – promotional tools.

It was an ambitious and brave move for a band who had not yet unleashed their music on the world, but one which bore fruit immediately and has set Alera up for a bright future indeed.

Hayden Oakley (vocals) and Matt Ashley (vocals) sat down with HEAVY to run us through some of the thought process leading into their debut release.

“It’s been phenomenal,” Ashley said of the early response. “We’ve had really good luck with the Spotify play listing and a lot of people have really been digging it, which is more than we can ask for.”

“We’ve got a bit of a fan club going, and those guys have been the best,” Oakley added. “They’ve backed us pretty much since day one, so we’re grateful to have the opportunity to have people checking out or stuff and caring.”

In the full interview the boys run us through the EP in greater detail, the concept behind it and how they created it, the thought process that went into every aspect, the band’s digital fanbase dubbed The Covenant, their launch show on December 16 and more.
