Ahead of their debut EP release Sex and Feuds, The Dandys will be showcasing at BIGSOUND 2023. Just recently announced, the Brisbane/Meanjin-based punk/alt-rock darlings have been gifted a huge opportunity to perform at Australia’s most prestigous music industry event of the year.
For those who can make it, catch the band performing on Tuesday, September 5 at the Black Bear Lodge at 9.00pm and again on Thursday, September 7 at The Outpost at 7.30pm.
Off the back of the lead single release Gums as well as their appearance at Splendour In The Grass, this added showcase and build-up towards their debut EP Sex and Feuds out on Friday, September 15, could not be scripted.
Sex and Feuds delves into the tumultuous voyage of adolescence with genuine and unfiltered expression. Brimming with attitude and lively vigour, the EP perfectly encapsulates the youthful exuberance and uninhibited passion of a budding musical ensemble uncovering their distinctive sound.
The lead single Gums (out now) is a dynamic rollercoaster ride. The deliberate verses allow Protheroe’s commanding vocals to enunciate each word while the band maintains a composed and cool energy, providing a backdrop of grunge-infused blues-rock. As the tempo intensifies, the pre-chorus delves into deep territory before erupting into a liberating instrumental chorus adorned with a euphoric psychedelic guitar riff. The bridge and outro of the song surge forward with a fuzz-driven intensity, creating an absolute whirlwind of a track.
