THE BEAUTIFUL MONUMENT Get Festival Crazy

Share This:

If you thought the release of their latest album – I’m The Reaper – and a headline tour would be enough for Aussie alternative rock outfit The Beautiful Monument… then you thought wrong my friend. The next few months are going to be absolutely crazy for the band who are not only playing at Unify and the Good Things Festival but are also taking time out of their busy schedule to play at the Ocean Defence Tour which is raising money for Sea Shepherd.

When HEAVY Magazine catches up with Lizi and Amy from The Beautiful Monument they are in a laughter filled mood. “Terrified for the next one,” says Lizi laughing when I ask her how the success of I’m The Reaper has made her feel. “Yeah, I think that is the best way to put it. Scared for the next one but also very humbled.”

“I think it is just going to get harder as we go,” she Amy as I asked whether or not they now feel pressure heading into their third album. “There is an expectation there now and it is daunting because if we go in a different direction it’s like ‘fuck, will people like it?’ but it is just daunting really… stupidly daunting. We have always been lucky that our albums have had a range of styles and a range of genres tied together by Lizi’s vocals, but it is interesting to know that people will be supportive no matter what direction we go in… that is nice but also scary.”

That moves the conversation to touch on whether or not the band are feeling any pressure about heading into a time period that will see them play at three festivals. “I’m okay with that, actually,” says Lizi her smile obvious in her voice. “It is slowly creeping up but at the moment I feel pretty chuffed and pretty excited. I just look at it as we have three pretty rad things coming up in the next few months.”

“Yeah, I think our whole year has been pretty exhausting,” adds Amy. “We did the two headline runs and we are pretty hands-on with organising that stuff. Then it was music video this, organising that so if anything we did all the hard work at the beginning of the year and now we are heading into the exciting stuff because it is festivals… and we know how to play our tunes. So this is the easy stuff.”

When we begin to talk about Good Things and UNIFY the laughter continues when Lizi says “I’m going to be a nervous wreck because we are on the same bill as The Veronicas. But to be honest I am absolutely gob-smacked because we are going to be playing alongside two of my all-time favourite bands – A Day To Remember and A Ghost Inside. I’m pretty much crapping my dacks because I am going to be scared if I run into them. I am always scared at festivals that  I am going to run into someone that I really admire and turn into a massive fan-girl… i would probably do what  I am doing right now and just babble. Honestly though if I get Jeremy McKinnon I would probably vomit and then probably burst into tears because I am just not good with musical heroes.”

And don’t think just because of the festivals that The Beautiful Moment aren’t writing because Amy is quick to say, “No we are currently working on new music… which is rad. We’re getting there, it’s weird… we actually do write music!”
