The Arrival Of ARRIVAL OF AUTUMN

Share This:

Hailing from Canada Arrival Of Autumn are a band that have done the hard yards to get where they are today. Inspired by the greats of metal – Metallica, Lamb Of God and Trivium just to name a few – the band made a name for themselves locally, did some independent albums and then finally caught the attention of Nuclear Blast Records. Now we find that their new album, titled Harbinger, has just dropped so HEAVY Mag sat down with Jamison Friesen to find out a little more about the band that everyone is talking about.

“We’re from northern Alberta, Canada,” he says when talking a little about the band’s history. “We’ve been together since 2011 so for us starting out we tried to make as many connections as possible and we did a lot of do-it-yourself stuff like booking our own venues, self promoting our shows and making it work that way which led to more opportunities in more cities with better bands and in better venues. Eventually we were confident enough to book some time with Jason at Audio Hammer to make some cool music, and that was the start of the journey that saw us get signed.”

“We basically took what we get,” he states when I ask what it was like being a band that was located in a town 300 miles from the nearest international airport. “That meant taking a lot of Battle Of The Bands gigs that were unpaid. We took a lot of support gigs for bands – and they were unpaid support gigs. The first time we booked our own show in a city that wasn’t our hometown it was a massive flop, so you learn quick what not to do, but basically we knew it was our favourite thing to do. We knew we wanted to invest our time and money into it so we didn’t let that side bug us instead we just decided to play some fun shows and in the end the shows just ended up getting better and we felt that we were onto something.”

You can listen to the rest of our Arrival Of Autumn interview on Spotify.

Harbringer is out now through Nuclear Blast Records.
