I’m Now: The Story Of Mudhoney

Share This:

Any time you’re playing music for the crowd instead of yourself… you’re f**ked!

Mark Arm

Mudhoney have lived through a lot since they formed out of the ashes of Green River in 1988 between breaking into the big time, taking a break, leaving Sub Pop and signing to a major, then once again returning home to Sub Pop. I’m Now is a great insight into the world of Mudhoney. It’s a tale of friendship and enjoying what you’ve got rather than dwelling on tragedy and woe. Yes, Mudhoney certainly didn’t reach the pinnacle of success that others that began with them did (like Nirvana and Pearl Jam), yet their 1988 single ‘Touch Me I’m Sick’ gave birth to the sound that became known as Grunge (although many would argue that Mudhoney never were a part of that genre themselves).

A documentary about the band, ‘I’m Now’ also features fellow luminaries from the Seattle scene and more, like Jonathan Poneman and Bruce Pavitt (Sub Pop), Bob Burt (Pussy Galore), Tad Doyle and Kurt Danielson (Tad), Jack Endino (Skin Yard, producer), Kim Thayill (Soundgarden), Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam). There’s plenty of live footage, interviews and behind the scenes action to keep both the most hardcore fans and new comers interested.
