Chester Bennington Joins Stone Temple Pilots

Since firing original lead vocalist Scott Weiland in February  for the second time in their career, San Diego rockers unveiled a new track last night with Linkin Park  frontman Chester Bennington at the 2013 KROQ Weenie Roast in Irvine, California.

The track, titled Out of Time can be heard below and STP have also released studio footage of Bennington recording it in the studio.

Bennington is no stranger to performing with them. When his respective band and STP both appeared at the 2001 Family Values tour, Bennington joined them on stage to perform the track Wonderful off of STP’s 2001 album Shangri-La Dee Da. The track was also featured on the live CD showcasing the tour.

Although no word yet on whether Bennington will join STP as a permanent replacement for Weiland, he told KROQ “I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me. When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.”

Added STP guitarist Dean DeLeo, “Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time. We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”

In addition to performing the new track, Bennington sang a few crowd favourites with the band at the event, which was closed with the song  Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart, taken from STP’s third album Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop.
