SUBSTITUTE is a Brooklyn-based DIY punk rock band that worships the classic 1980s American underground. The Wipers, Dinosaur Jr, shades of early Replacements are just a few influences the NYC power trio wears on their sleeve. There’s no pretence, just blisteringly cathartic rock and roll with a healthy dose of sweaty guitar solos.
Their 2023 LP Manic is a sweltering collection of urgent, melodic grunge-punk songs with an old-school, analogue aesthetic that condenses the wild energy of the group’s live shows into 30 furious minutes. Stay tuned for new releases later this year.
