Australian comedy legend Steve Hughes has recently undergone major open heart surgery. Feeling a bit off one day earlier this month, Steve thought it best to check into a Sydney hospital to be on the safe side. Lucky he did – just days later he was operated on to have a worn out valve replaced. The operation was a success and Steve is now recovering and looking forward to telling his legions of fans about it.
Steve recently celebrated his 58th birthday and scores of fans and well wishers dropped by his Facebook page page to send messages of support and birthday gags.
Steve comments on his surgery, ‘‘I want to say a sincere thank you to everyone who supported me through this time. To say it was brutal is an understatement, but, I’m still standing and not going down that easiIy! The trouble with being a comedian is everyone says “Well at least you will get new material out of it“ And I’m sure I will, but if I’m honest I’d prefer not to go through open heart surgery to write a fucking joke. See you soon'”
As a result of the surgery, all of Steve’s November shows have been moved to March to give him enough time to be ready to take the stage again. Tickets already purchased for the November shows are valid for the new dates. Venues remain the same.
