SOILWORK Deliver A Masterpiece

Share This:

With the events of this year causing so many artists to change their plans for 2020 any music fan out there could be forgiven for thinking that this could be a year where the musical highlights were of pretty low standard. Someone forgot to tell Soilwork that though.

Instead of taking things easy over the past few months the band found time to challenge themselves with the epic masterpiece – they wanted to do something they had never done before and the result was the brand new EP The Whisp Of The Atlantic.

When I get a chance to talk to guitarist David Andersson about the album he is in the studio again with Bjorn Strid as they lay down vocals for the new Night Flight Orchestra album.

“When we finished the last album there was still a pretty big creative atmosphere around the band,” says Andersson and as Strid’s vocals can be clearly heard in the background. “I am always craving to do more stuff so I dropped the idea that perhaps we could drop a couple of singles and then I wrote “Feverish,” “Desperado” and “Death Diviner… then Covid hit. But I had always had this idea that I wanted the band to do a track or tracks that nobody would ever expect us to do.”

When Andersson says that Covid hit he doesn’t just mean that it prevented the band from touring. Covid literally hit him as Adersson works as a doctor and found himself not only treating Covid patients but also contracting the virus himself. That experience really made Andersson stop and take notice of things both professionally and personally.

“I have always thought that Soilwork has been underrated as a band,” he says. “And this time I really just wanted to create something that was very different. It actually came together pretty easily and was a lot of fun to record.”

The Whisp Of The Atlantic EP is out now through Nuclear Blast Records.
