smallways. have released Nerve Remorse, the third single taken from their debut EP Mind Your Head, set for release this year. The track represents a time in both Stevie‘s and Teriece‘s life where they were searching for understanding of themselves and the world around them.
The lyrics question the ego of self and others, while exploring why we treat some of those we love poorly when they’re at their lowest. Sometimes we can feel as though it’s hard to empathise because it’s hard to relate, which makes it difficult to understand what’s happening for another person who is struggling with mental health. This can cause feelings of discomfort and confusion for people when they’re around those struggling with mental health.
People respond in a variety of ways to their struggles, and we all respond differently to those around us and our own struggles. None of us experience this exactly the same, so it can make us feel like repelling magnets trying to connect.
This song is the band saying we all hurt ourselves in our own minds. We hurt each other when we don’t listen and show compassion. None of us are better human beings for struggling or not struggling, and when we don’t understand, the best any of us can do is slow down and listen.
