In a rant at a show in Switzerland that would normally be in Scott Ian’s hitting zone, Tom Araya has told an audience that every home should have a gun to defend against so called “invaders.”
Araya said: “Is it true that every household has to own a rifle or a gun? No? I thought everybody in Switzerland had a rifle or a gun in their home? It’s not right? How else are you gonna defend your country?”
Araya continues: “I’m not gonna name names but you can see what’s going on in other countries. Because they can’t protect themselves. And that’s what I’m talking about, being able to protect yourself and your fellow countrymen and your f*cking country.
“I’m being serious, man. This isn’t a f*cking joke. It really sucks to know that other people die, because you can’t protect them.”
Let’s look at the cold hard stats. There were 372 mass shootings in the U.S in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870, according to the Mass Shooting Tracker, which catalogues such incidents. A mass shooting is defined as a single shooting incident which kills or injures four or more people, including the assailant.
According to the BBC. In 2012, of all murders in the U.S, 60% were by firearms compared to 18% in Australia. So please, don’t piss in our pocket and tell us it’s raining.
It’s statements by influential people like Araya that will never see gun laws changed in the U.S.
