Review by: Matt Barton

American Christian rockers Comrades have released the first track from their sophomore album Lone/Grey. The album, due for release on October 7th through Facedown Records, is the follow-up to the band’s debut Safekeeper in 2014.

Dark Tongues Part II kicks off like any other hardcore song. Hard, fast and in your face. This will come as a surprise to fans of the band, as it’s a complete change of pace from the band’s debut effort, which was very ambient post-rock. What’s also unique to this song is it’s drummer Ben Trussell who sings, or rather screams, into the mic.

What I also dug about this track, was when frontwoman Laura McElroy takes over lead vocals to take it back into that more ambient rock feel, before the two mix seamlessly together for the rest of the song.

The lyrics are very faith-based, something the band prides themselves on. As the trio, rounded out by McElroy’s husband Joe McElroy on guitar, state on their Facebook page, “we hope that we can be a light, and give encouragement, hope, and provoke thought, no matter your worldview or affiliation.”

This is a powerful lead single and makes you keen to want to hear the full album.
