Legendary Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies returns with a new solo track Apple Fresh, which is unlike anything he’s ever released before.
Having co-written chart-topping hits in Silverchair, including the iconic Tomorrow, Ben has a knack for vivid lyrics and left field song structure. Apple Fresh highlights these attributes with surrealist lyrics and vocals reminiscent of Talking Heads sung over flourishes of 90s rave and industrial sounds to create an entirely new beast.
“‘Apple Fresh’ is about the importance of clearing out everything that’s holding you back – especially addictions (which can have many forms),” Ben says. “You could take it as a motivational track, or a dance track, or any kind of track really, and I strongly recommend turning it up loud.”
The track is produced by Jordan Power (Dope Lemon, Skegss) and mixed by award-winning producer Konstantin Kersting (Spacey Jane, Genesis Owusu, Tones and I). A striking visual will drop in the coming weeks.
It’s been a busy period for Ben with his single On The Stereo released earlier this year, as well as last week putting up his entire Behind the Beat series, which allows fans to play along with Ben’s iconic Silverchair drum tracks whether on guitar, bass, vocals or whatever they choose.
