Showing The Love With DEADSKIN

Share This:

After the overwhelmingly positive reaction to their debut single K.M.S – which was released in late July and quickly amassed more than 20,000 views – Melbourne based metalcore outfit Deadskin resisted the temptation to rush out a follow-up single, instead taking their time and making sure they got things right.

Which is precisely what the rising band has done with their latest single, No Love, which is out now.

Written from the perspective of vocalist Mitchell Rawlings about his own personal demons and battles with mental health, No Hope is a monster of a track that highlights the many different sides of Deadskin’s music psyche and lays the platform for their debut EP What Do You Count To Fall Asleep, which will be released on November 11.

HEAVY caught up with Rawlings to find out more.

“Musically, there’s just so many eggs in this basket when it comes to this song, it’s just ridiculous,” he explained. “I don’t even know how to explain it. There’s hardcore riffs, metalcore riffs, ambient interlude parts with a little bit of screaming breakdowns… just weird shit. It’s balls to the wall heavy, just what you would expect to hear from us.”

The horror-themed film clip is visually stunning, tying in well with the subject matter explored in the track.

“It’s mainly about neglecting people’s mental health,” Rawlings measured, “especially in our youth. People hear you say you don’t understand and say ‘wait until you’re 20’, and when you’re 20 it’s ‘wait until you’re 30, and then you’ll understand what real stress is’, and a lot of people can ignore it. People struggle in different ways and attempt self-harm and stuff like that, which is what the video is about. It’s someone harming themselves to the point of collapse, but they are also deranged in the aspect where they have taken out a few people that have wronged them in the past, but it’s hard to see in the video because we can’t really put that up there too much otherwise YouTube will take it straight down (laughs).”

In the full interview, Mitchell talks more about No Love, how it stands up to debut single K.M.S, their debut EP and what to expect, planning your next move, the title of the EP and what it means, upcoming shows and more.
